FAQ service of diving equipment
How often should diving equipment be serviced?
Regular servicing is required to ensure the safe operation of equipment when used under pressure. Most manufacturers recommend annual servicing of regulators, valves and air supply systems. Pressure vessels such as diving cylinders are subject to periodic inspection every five years and annual visual inspection. GDA Sweden performs service according to the manufacturer's specifications and documents the work digitally.
Who can service diving equipment?
Service must be carried out by certified personnel with authorisation for each make. GDA Sweden's technicians are trained in accordance with current standards and use original parts and the correct torque tools. This ensures that the equipment fulfils the Swedish Work Environment Authority's safety requirements for diving work.
What are the risks if equipment is not properly serviced?
Failure of regulators, valves or dive computers can cause oxygen deficiency, barotrauma or decompression sickness as a result of improper air supply or unadjusted systems. Lack of maintenance can also lead to leakage and corrosion of pressurised components. By following service intervals and documenting maintenance, these risks can be minimised.
What is the employer's responsibility for the condition of the diving equipment?
The employer is responsible for ensuring that all equipment used in diving work fulfils the requirements of the Swedish Work Environment Authority's regulations. This means that servicing, checks and documentation must be included in the systematic work environment programme. The diving supervisor must ensure that the equipment is checked before use and that any faults are reported and rectified.
Do divers need to undergo medical checks?
Yes, they do. According to the rules of the Swedish Work Environment Authority, divers must have a valid fitness-for-duty certificate and undergo regular medical checks to assess their physical and mental fitness for work. Good health and proper equipment together are essential to prevent accidents and injuries when diving.
